Hawaii Legislature Looking to Ammend MMA BILL

Feb 1, 2010
Story- Britt Yap (Honolulu, HI)-- The Comittee on Consumer Protection and Commmerce will be holding a hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Hawaii State Capitol room 325. Two mixed martial arts bills have been introduced this Session and will be heard for the first time this Wednesday.

House bills 2764 and 2639 were introduced by Rep. Jerry Chang (D 2nd-S.Hilo). House Bill 2764 seeks to remove the requirement that a mixed martial arts contest promoter pay 2 percent of gross sales price relating to broadcasting, television, Internet, and motion picture rights in order to receive a permit. House Bill 2639 seeks to include amateur mixed martial arts under the regulation of mixed martial arts by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

Members of the MMA community--especially promoters--are encouraged to testify at Wednesday's hearing.
