Yancy Medeiros weighs in at 185.5 lbs.

I just got word from Yancy's camp that he made weight--185.5 pounds to be exact--this afternoon in San Jose. I can't wait to see him fight tomorrow in Strikeforce Challengers on Showtime. We should expect to see some fireworks!

Here's a rundown of him and his opponent.

Here is how the rest of the fight card weighed in.

The UNDERGROUND announces their 2009 "Best of the Best" awards

For all of you MMA forum junkies...one of my favorite forums to visit is www.mixedmartialarts.com. The owners of the site recently asked their members to vote on different MMA categories for 2009. Here are the results of the poll.

I'm really happy that they made a "Mask: Man of the Year" award. I think that the "Fighter of the Year" should have gone to Anderson Silva or Fedor. I definitely think Cyborg deserved "Female Fighter of the Year." The Guida vs. Sanchez fight was amazing and they both deserve to be recognized for that. I'm bummed I didn't get to see the Dream Super Hulk tournament, but I agree UFC 100 was an amazing night of action! I have absolutely no words for the "Submission of the Year." If you haven't watched the video...what the hell are you waiting for. I thought it was pretty hilarious that the UNDERGROUND decided to have an award for the "Debacle of the Year." All nominees were pretty memorable. I'm not surprised that Herb Dean won "Ref of the Year" and Arianny took the prize for "Ring Card Girl of the Year."

I was a little shocked that Greg Jackson was the "Trainer of the Year," especially with the whole 'Vaselinegate' episode with BJ and GSP, but oh well, what can I say. Jackson has been producing top MMA athletes for the past few years. With the 'Vaselinegate' episode in mind, I'm surprised that the Nevada commission won any award. But whatever..most UFC fights happen in Nevada anyway. I love that my favorite, Joe Rogan, got "Broadcaster of the Year." He definitely deserves it. I love to hear his opinions when he commentates and he is very knowledgeable about the sport. I do love the photo that won "Photo of the Year" and I'm happy for MMA Weekly, because they do really good reporting.

Brock's quote was definitely most memorable. Everything from pissing off the Budlight sponsors, to saying he was gonna get up on his wife when he got home. Other than my own magazine, when we were still in print, I definitely enjoyed reading FIGHT! Magazine. Happy for them...they produce good articles and pictures. Finally, I'm not very surprised that Bruce Buffer took the "Announcer of the Year" award. Most people probably only knew him on the ballot. But I was impressed that TJ Thompson's name got on there. It's funny...cause one of my dreams is to be an MMA announcer. I wouldn't mind doing it for fun :) I always practice at home by myself and get all into it. I'm not as bad as you think I am. It's pretty funny and entertaining actually.

I really hope though...that everyone takes a moment to read a little about the man behind the MASK. Last year we lost someone very important to the growth of the sport. He has done so much for the industry and the fighters. Here's a short video clip of Mask at a Tapout photo shoot in his last interview before he passed.

UPROAR's transition to Web in Pacific Business News

My decision to move away from print and focus more on my blog, breaking news, events, and photos on UPROAR's Web site was featured in Pacific Business News on Dec. 25. UPROAR's final issue hit stands in July 2009 and featured Jayson "Mayhem" Miller on the cover.

I just want readers to know that I'm still interested in printing...but not a quarterly magazine. I have ideas about putting together a large issue with a program included for the annual MMA Expo. We'll see what happens :)

UPROAR owner Britt Yap starts her own blog

Aloha Everyone,

I will begin blogging about things going on in the MMA scene in Hawaii--fights and events I go to, fighters I interview, gyms I visit-- and I hope you enjoy what I have to say.

The opinions shared in my blog do not reflect UPROAR (the news source), but are my own personal views. I've always wanted a platform that I could express my own feelings as an MMA fan and talk about and cover topics that usually wouldn't be considered newsworthy, but that I find interesting.

I attend many of the shows here in Hawaii and I photograph the fights and Twitter results from ringside. If you ever see me at a show, stop me and say hello.

I hope this blog allows me to get closer to my readers and MMA fans here in Hawaii and abroad.

Thanks for listening :)
